Why is Pipe Break the best penetrating oil?. It is formulated with the best active ingredients to create the product qualities that are listed below:
- Surface Tension
- Adhesion vs. Cohesion of Molecules
- Creep
- Viscosity
- Mechanical Properties
- Chemically Cut Through Rust
- Lubrication
Performance and physical characteristics are how you can see that Pipe Break is as good as or better than any other penetrating oil on the market. There certainly is the magic of the right formulation of the components to make it the best penetrating oil. Here are the testable individual factors that go together to make it work so well.
The Pipe Break Can Itself
Pipe Break is sold only in aerosol cans. If you are buying a penetrating oil and it has a screw top, then the manufacturer is telling you they do not have a product that leaks from the container in storage or shipping. If it cannot get by the container seal, how will it get through rust and tightly bound-up parts? So, take any product off the list than comes with a screw top closure.
Surface Tension
Pipe Break is a liquid with very low surface tension. Opposite of water on a freshly-stained deck or a windshield with Rain-Ex, it does not bead up. The low surface tension causes it to spread on rusty metal and find the miniscule cracks to get down and loosen and lubricate the stuck fastener so you can remove it. This low surface tension is part of what gets the penetrating oil down into where it is needed at the actual point of attack. Sitting on the surface is no good. Getting deep down to the point of seizure is the reason for low surface tension, then breaking down the rust that has a grip on the metal is the goal.
Adhesive Forces vs. Cohesive Forces
At the molecular level, varied materials have different properties. The molecular forces in Pipe Break are high in molecular adhesion. The molecules are attracted to other molecules, like rust, so it spreads fast. Put a drop on a rusty part and you can just see it quickly spread off to the sides of where the drop was applied. Cohesive molecules tend to stick to themselves and not spread.
Creep
Creep is the ability to spread and get in places at the molecular level. One way to see this is if you put a rusty bolt in some Pipe Break, the penetrating oil will climb up the threads. If you put it on top of a threaded bolt, it will work its way down in between nut and the bolt.
Viscosity
Pipe Break is not “thick,” so it flows well. It is formulated to be very thin with low viscosity which means that it flows well and works into all the tight places. It must be this way in order for it to carry the active ingredient to the point of contact where it needs to unstick the stuck parts.
Chemically Cut Through Rust
Breaking down molecular bonds both between metal-to-metal contact and metal-to-rust, Pipe Break loosens the area to get it moving. Rust is rough, gritty and hard. With all its friction, it fights movement. The ability to attack and break down the molecular bonds of the rust turns the rust into a toothpaste consistency. The result is both the nut is easier to break free and, when undoing it the rest of the way, it will unscrew easier when the Pipe Break penetrating oil is sprayed on the threads.
Pipe Break fights rust at the molecular bond level. It does not dissolve the rust it breaks it down, but softens it so parts welded together by rust can then be moved.
Lubrication
The lubrication helps get the parts free and then also has a protective quality to help prevent and slow rust from reforming. You can prove it for yourself by repeated applications on a very smooth surface. A slight stickiness will develop and can be cleaned off, like when it is used as a gun oil.
Applications
Some other products claim to be a solution to a multitude of problems. Pipe Break is a product solely designed for loosening rusted, frozen parts. It is not like some other things that are good for 200 uses.
The 9-oz. Pipe Break can has an attached straw for controlled pinpoint spray application in hard-to-reach places and then swings out of the way if you want a standard spray application of penetrating oil. It is just a pain in the neck to keep track of a straw that comes taped to a can. It falls off in the tool box and then, when you need the straw, you cannot find it. With our can, the option of the straw is always right there with the can. If you do tight work and use a straw a lot, this can mean you get about 25 percent more out of the can because you are getting the penetrating oil right to the place you need it, not having to spray a whole lot in an area to get it down to where you need it. So, this can just might be 25 percent more valuable.
Made in America
For people who have to fight with rust, this is the best penetrating oil to break rust loose. It is specially formulated so you can get the parts apart. Unlike other companies that claim to work well, we cater to the people who need results and we back it up.
